Joey was a 2004 graduate of Buchanan High School where he excelled in football, baseball, and soccer. He was very involved and successful in BMX racing while in elementary school. It was at Buchanan High where he was a friend and classmate of Cpl. Nathan Hubbard, who was killed in Iraq in August 2007. Nathan's older brother, Lance Cpl. Jared Hubbard was killed in Iraq earlier along with his buddy Cpl. Jeremiah Baro. And then Joey's brother, Senior Airmen Nick Eischen died in December 2007 when he was killed in the Middle East while serving in the United States Army, Joey was home on leave. Joey also served in the military in the Army's 101st Airborne Division for two years. He was awarded the following: Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and Army Service Medal. He died just weeks after being released from the Army after his brother died in Afghanistan on Christmas Eve. He had just returned from a week in Hawaii. He leaves behind his mother and father and his sister, Jamie. He died at Community Regional Medical Center of unknown causes at age 22. Buchanan High School has also lost two other casualties. Spc. Rowan Walter and Lance Cpl. Anthony Butterfield. Joey could light up a room just by walking into it. He was full of life and fearless. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. To know him was to love him. He loved his family and friends, they were his world. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Nicholas and David; cousin, Tyler; and his great-grandparents, Dwain and Pauline Bridges.
