William served as a Corporal in Company I, 504th Regiment Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army during World War II.
He resided in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Maryland prior to the war.
William enlisted in the Army National Guard on February 3, 1941, prior to the war, in Salisbury, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents. However he did marry prior to going overseas.
He "Died Of Wounds" received during battle at Nijmegen, Holland. His name is on a memorial on the north shore of the Waal River in Nijmegen along with the other soldier's killed there. He was decorated with a Purple Heart.
William's name is on the war memorial in Salisbury, MD. His stone should show "Maryland" instead of the State of his birth.
