Stanley served as a Second Lieutenant, 847th Bomber Squadron, 489th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on August 21, 1941, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Stock Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Stanley was declared "Missing In Action" during the war and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
