ASA DOTY served as an Ensign in the Revolutionary War. He served under Col. William B. Whiting in the 17th Regiment in the Albany Co. Militia. His Patriot number is A033358.

He was the fifth of eleven known children born to Zerviah Lovell (1718-1760) and Samuel Doty (1714-1784) of Massachusetts.
