My great grandfather, Moses Andrew, was a son of Joel Adams Cornelius and Mary "Polly" Easley of Blount County, Alabama. He married Nancy Keziah Bynum, a daughter of James Bynum and Catherine Prater, on July 28, 1870 at James Bynum's house in Oneonta, Blount County "with Moses A. and Joel Cornelius, bondmen, Joel Cornelius, the father of Moses A. Cornelius consents." This marriage is recorded on page 389, Book G, 1868-1871, Blount County, Alabama.
Nancy and Moses were the parents of ten known chidren; one was born in Alabama, eight were born in Ellis County and the last was born in Brown County.
Moses Andrew came first to Ellis County about 1874 based on the Ellis County tax rolls. His second child, Modelia, was born in 1875 Ellis County.

It is probable that Moses came to Texas with his brothers Meredith and Elijah Benson. He moved to Brown County in 1890, or possibly late 1889. He appears on the 1889 Ellis County tax roll and the 1890 Brown County tax roll.
The children were: Mary Melvina (AL), Modelia (Ellis), Remus (Ellis), Lando (Ellis), Walter R. (Ellis), Kate (Ellis), Bishop A. (Ellis), Maud Ethel (Ellis), Maggie (Ellis), and James Asa (Brown). Five of these children are buried in Ellis County; five are buried in Brown County.

IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF, M.A. CORNELIUS, DIED MAY 27, 1928, AGE 78 YEARS
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: A precious one from us has gone; A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled; God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon His love had given, And though the body slumbers here, The soul is safe in Heaven.
