Jacquelynne D. "Jackie" Barnes, 80, of Taylorville, IL died at 8:00 am Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.

She was born October 18, 1929 in Benton, Kansas, the daughter of Lynne VanDine and Thelma Frances "Peggy" Miles Henrie. She married Ronald Dean Barnes on June 2, 1951 in her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the granddaughter of former New Mexico Governor John Miles and wife Susie. She was raised in Albuquerque and has resided in Taylorville since 1966. Jackie was a 1947 graduate of Albuquerque High School. She was a 1951 graduate of the University of New Mexico and later received a masters degree in Education from Sangamon State University in Springfield. She taught Physical Education and Health at Taylorville High School for 27 years, retiring in 1994. She was Taylorville's first women's coach in several sports, including volleyball, bowling and golf. She was inducted into the Taylorville Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Jackie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville and was active in numerous organizations, including American Association of University Women, Daughter's of the American Revolution, and the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Jackie loved music, painting, genealogy, and making new friends.

She is survived by her sons: James "Mike" Barnes and David Barnes of Springfield and Christopher "Kris" Barnes and wife Ann of Maple Grove. MN. Daughters: Laurie O'Brien and husband Dennis and Sharon Haasis and husband Lou both of Springfield. Brother: James C. Henrie and wife Joan of Corrales, NM; half sister: Lynne Peterson of Page, AZ and sister-in-law: Shirley Bernard of Huntsville, AL. 11 Grandchildren There are several uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family is especially indebted to Jo Spain, Jackie's friend and former daughter-in-law for her loving care.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville. Services will be held at 7:00 pm with Pastor Bob Spurgin officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Girl's Athletic Department at Taylorville High School, the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville or Springfield Muni Opera.
