Ronald L. Hopper, 64, a resident of Greenfield, passed away Monday, February 15, 2010 at Community Hospital North.

He was born February 22, 1945 in Urbana, Illinois to the late Hal G. and Roselyn (Dazey) Hopper.

Ron was a 1963 graduate of Coal Creek Central High School in New Richmond, Indiana and graduate of Indiana State University. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Kitty Hawk. He worked at Roll Coater in Greenfield for 22 years as a quality control technician, was a member of the V.F.W. # 2393, American Legion Post 119, F.O.P Lodge 140, Elks Lodge 1720, Winamac Masonic Lodge 262, Abate of Indiana and past president and committee man of the UAW Local # 661. He was a lover and avid Harley Davidson rider, enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren, family and many friends. Ron was a loving husband, father, papaw and friend who knew no stranger.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 23 years, Valerie (Koonce) Hopper of Greenfield; children, Barbara (Wil) Richardson of Indianapolis, Chris Hopper, Heather (Marc) Huber and Hilaire (Ron) Chittum, all of Greenfield; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Dustin, Jordan, Travis, Mallory, Macy, Travis, Autumn, and Matthew; 1 great-grandchild, Connor; brothers, Donald (Anita) Hopper of Indianapolis, Michael Hopper of Marquette, MI; sister, Sharon K. Hopper of Big Rapids, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield with Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
