"Mr. Hiram DeLong an old veteran of the Civil War died at his home in Herron Tuesday the 20th. He was buried Wednesday. Funeral at house by Rev. Homer of Edmond. The remains were taken charge of at the cemetery by Hancock Post No. 95 G.A.R. interned with the honors of the order of which he was a member.
"He leaves a wife and seven children, five of whom are married and have families and homes elsewhere. Two boys, the youngest, remain with their mother on the farm. ..."
According to U.S. Civil War Soldiers' Records:
HIRAM DeLONG enlisted in the Pennsylvnaia Volunteers and fought for the Union. He was assigned to Company D, 57th Infantry Regiment on 12 Feb 1864 and mustered out on 29 Jun 1865 at Alexandria, VA.
