MY MOM

Ethel was born and raised in south Minneapolis, Mn. Ethel was the daughter of Steve and Anne Schreiber. She had five sisters, Anne, Mary, Dorothy, Rose, & Betty and one brother William. Ethel married Donald Edquist and had two sons, Stephen and Ronald and one daughter Jo Ann.
Mom didn't work out side the house because of health problems. But she sure knew how to iron clothes really well. She did ironing of white shirts for a doctor. He said no one could put starch in a collar like she could. She also ironed all the vestments and all the church linens for the catholic church once a week. She did this for about 8 years, and it was not an easy job.

Mom loved animals and one time my sister found a baby robin that fell from a nest after a storm. Mom nursed that robin with the use of an eye dropper and the robin lived. The robin was so tame, it would even sit on you. Our home soon became the home for the robin too. In the morning she would open a window and the robin would fly out for the day and much to our surprise it would return to the window at dusk each day. When cold weather came any other robin would fly south, not this one. We ended up letting it stay the winter with us. Dad had to go out and buy worms all winter. A reporter for the newspaper came out and did a story about my Mom and the robin. They both had their picture in the paper, mom was very proud of that. She said what is all the fuss about I just cared for the bird just like anyone else should do. That was our mom. Late the next summer the robin died from that DTT poisoning that was being used on trees at the time. She was really heartbroken when the robin died and so were we. We lost a special pet.

Mom also loved to listen to music and her favorite was old time music. She would listen to that for hours at a time. She was a good dancer and loved the polkas the best. Mom was a fighter and would always stand behind her children. But if you messed up or lied, look out! You would pay the price with an old fashioned spanking.

My Father and I were by my Mother's side at the time of her death, she died of cancer. We all love and miss her so very much, she was a special Mom and Lady. God bless you Mom!
Love always,
Your Son Steve
