Lloyd L. Hill, MD, 79, of Peru, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 3:35 p.m., at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born August 28, 1928 in Indianapolis, to Frank and Gladys Musselman Hill. He married Roberta Thornburg on November 10, 1962 and she survives.

Dr. Hill attended Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine, receiving his MD degree in 1953. Following graduation from medical school, he served in the U.S. Army and set up practice in Denver in 1954. In 1962, he joined forces with Dr. Harold Rendel and Dr. Parker Snyder and established Hill, Rendel, and Snyder. They practiced family medicine in Peru until 1990 when Dr. Rendel and Dr. Snyder retired.

Dr. Hill continued to practice medicine in various capacities, and was currently associated with the Wabash-Miami County Hospice and the Cancer Center of Logansport.

He was elected Miami County Coroner in November of 2006 and assumed office on January 1, 2007.

A man of great integrity, he was an active member of the Peru community, and had served for many years as the physician for Peru High School athletic teams. He was a relentless supporter of the Peru Amateur Circus, and was known as the beloved 'Doc Sprock.'

Dr. Hill was an avid IU fan, thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and days on the golf course. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Circus City Hall of Fame and was active in the Indiana Medical Society, holding various offices. He was a member of the Miami County Medical Society, the Indiana Medical Society, the American Medical Association and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Aside from his wife, Dr. Hill is survived by children, Cindy Mullett and her husband Ron, of Peru, Diane Caswell and her husband Randy, of Aurora, Colorado, Melanie Giek and her husband Kevin, of Peru, Kevin Hill and his companion Michelle, of Lakewood, Colorado, Bart Hill and his wife Tracy of Peru, Mark Queener and his wife Carolyn, of Union, Michigan; a brother, James Hill and his wife Karen, of Naples, Florida; a sister-in-law Elaine Thornburg, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Krista Dausman and her husband Paul, Katie Mullett, Matthew Caswell, Melissa Caswell, Justin Caswell, Nicholas Hill, Jared Giek, Baylie Giek, Brandon Giek, Zachary Hill, Brooklyn Hill, Joseph Queener, and Thomas Queener. Also surviving is his first wife, Harriet Galbraith, and several nieces and nephews.



A service celebrating the life of Dr. Lloyd L. Hill will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the AmericanTrust Circus City Center, 154 North Broadway, Peru, with Chaplain Steve Fleck officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the AmericanTrust Circus City Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Circus City Festival, Inc., or Wabash-Miami County Hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru.

Cause of death: Car accident

Update: Dr Hill's wife Roberta succumbed to her injuries from the same car accident on 10/19/07.
