Benjamin Collins(Civil War Veteran) was born in Cape May County, N.J.,and a resident of Knob Prairie, IL. Enlisted Aug. 21, 1862 in Co. A, 110 Illinois Infantry, then mustered Sept. 11, 1862 in Co. D, 40 Illinois Infantry, mustered out June 8, 1865.
Ben's war records, which I have a copy, show he served throughout the war in the 110th Ill. He enlisted in Co. D. After the Battle of Stone's River, he was consolidated into Co. A due to the heavy casualties the Regiment incurred.
