Donato Fred, known as Dan, was born on June 30, 1917 and raised in Cleveland, the 9th of ten children of Antonio & Louisa Iafelice.
He grew up on Nathaniel Rd. & graduated from Collinwood High School in 1935 & Seton Hall College in 1939.
He served in the Army during WWII from 11/1941 to 3/1946 and was wounded in action in Germany and received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged.
Dan worked for Arabian American Oil Co. & spent 15 years in Saudi Arabia --- & has been around the world six times.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as resident engineer and constructed 22 air traffic control towers in 22 states. He also had his own business in construction and retired March 3, 1985.
Dan was married three times and has been married to Sue Long since 1968. They resided at 1140 Hillrock in So. Euclid, Ohio until Dec. of 1997 when they sold their home and moved into an apartment. Dan had a stroke in 1997, survived, but couldn't talk. He & Sue moved to a condo in Eastlake in 1999. On the death of his brother in May of 2004, Dan and Sue moved into Roy's house on Donald Ave. in Richmond Hts. where they continued to live.
Dan fell at home, hitting his head. He was taken to Hillcrest Hospital where he was checked out okay and sent home where he passed away on June 8, 2007. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. He is buried at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland in Sec. 5-A, lot 5-T, along with his parents & brother John.

DAN F IAFELICE, U.S. Army WW II Veteran. Beloved husband of Celia A "Sue" (nee Long), dearest step-father of Lisa Jones; devoted grandfather of Aaron Schultz; son of Antonio and Luisa (nee Petti) (both deceased); dear brother of Pasqualina, John, Roy, Victor, Jennie (John) Nero, Dominic and Walter (all deceased). Sister-in-law of Audrey Iafelice; dear uncle of Mary Ann (Alvin) Kulmanczeski, Tony (Dolores) DiNero, Eli (David) Edgar and many other nieces and nephews. Dan was Commander of American Legion Post No. 759.
The family will receive friends at the Vicchiarelli Funeral Home, 5252 Mayfield Rd., Lyndhurst, Monday 4-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment Lake View Cemetery.

Dan F. Iafelice, founding president of the Collinwood Memories Seniors, past commander of American Legion Post 759 and retired Federal Aviation Administration engineer, died June 8 at age 89.
The Cleveland born son of Italian immigrants moved from the Little Italy neighborhood on the city's East Side to the Collinwood area when he was 10 years old.
He was a halfback, punter and captain of the Collinwood High School football team that won the city championship in 1935. Iafelice, who was named to the All Ohio football and basketball teams, went on the play basketball at Seton Hall College.
Following his service in the Army with a tank corps in Africa during World War II, he worked as an Amoco Oil engineer in Saudi Arabia for 16 years. Iafelice ran the Press Bar in East Cleveland in the late 1960's before taking an engineering job with the FAA in 1970 and retired in 1991.
