Olin Thomas ("O.T.") Dyer and his son, Johnnie Marion Dyer, worked in the heating and plumbing business. Together they owned Dyer Heating & Plumbing. Dr. William Berry, the owner of Berry's Pharmacy, called Dyer Heating & Plumbing to see if they could locate the source of an odd smell in the pharmacy. O.T. was inside the pharmacy at the time of the gas explosion and perished as a result.

A double funeral was held for Olin Thomas Dyer and his son Johnny Marion Dyer on Friday, December 6, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Villa Rica at 4pm with Rev. E. Bunyan Collins, Rev. John L. Smith and Rev. Archie McNair officiating.

He was born in Carroll County, the son of the late Zodie Fields Dyer and John Dyer. O.T. was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He was survived by his wife, Vera Goggins Dyer, children Mrs. Winton Takcett, Marie Harris, Judson and Harold Dyer all of Villa Rica; four sisters Shirley Harper, Mrs. Monroe Jacobs, Mrs. Claude Morris and Grace Martin; four brothers Youles, Roy, Herman and Henry.

Burial in Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery, Robert Miller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
