James Collier Shaleen

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Mt. Whitney District Cemetery for former longtime Lone Pine resident James Collier Shaleen. Elder Kent Whitney of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate the service. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Lone Pine VFW.
Born Sept. 16, 1917 in Hartman, Ark. to Jewell Collier and John Severene Shaleen, James died on Jan. 12, 2006.
James was raised in Oklahoma, the youngest of four children. He married Edith Watts Shaleen, and the couple moved to California in 1938. Two children were born to them. James was a parts manager for many years. He also worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as an electrician. He moved to Lone Pine in 1957. James worked for PPG and when they closed, he took a job and traveled to Africa. He enjoyed playing cards and reading.
James was preceded in death by two wives.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Justice of Lone Pine; son, James Collier Shaleen and wife Shari of Orange County; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
