Birth: Nov. 15, 1705
New Haven County
Connecticut, USA
Death: Jul. 20, 1780
Morris County
New Jersey, USA

Born in November 1705, Noah Beach died in the "76th year of his age" during the summer of 1780, the 5th year of the American Revolutionary War. A native of Connecticut, where he was born to Benjamin Beach and the former Mary Hitchcock, he reportedly came to Denville, NJ during the 1750's with his brother Abner. His wife, with whom he had several children, was the former Hannah Harriman, daughter of Joseph Harriman of that town. By some accounts Hannah Harriman Beach survived her husband, but by others, the couple both died on July 20, 1780, a coincidence which suggests they were either victims of an accident or a contagious disease. Mr. Beach's brown sandstone stele features a soul effigy of the portrait type in its tympanum, and is probably the work of a craftsman known as the "The Common Jersey Carver". His epitaph is a departure from the grimmer sentiments of the colonial era, simply stating that he "exchang'd this for the world of Glory".
