Mortimer is the Son of William Allen Tharp and Martha Davis born Oct 1837 in Houston County, Georgia and died 10 Jul 1908 in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky at his daughters house - Eugenia Tharp Thompson.
Mortimer was a member of Havis Battery Light Artillery Company A, 14th Battalion. Mortimer was the Quartermaster for the Battalion. During the retreat of the Battalion after the Battle of Perryville, Mortimer was captured outside of Danville, Kentucky.
Mortimer was confirmed as a POW during the battles near Danville while retreating from Perryville, Ky.
Despite Mortimer only showing up in the 1880 Census, we now know that Mortimer was still alive in 1902 because he signed as approval and witness to the marriage of his daughter Eugenia A. Tharp to Samuel Edward Thompson on their marriage bond.
Mortimer is listed in the 1900 census as Mort Thorpe living in Salvisa, Mercer County, Ky with a wife named Annie and daughter named Eugene but should have been Eugenia.
