MRS. LEDBETTER DEAD

Mrs. Jane Ledbetter, widow of Wm. Ledbetter, deceased, and for many years a resident of Jackson County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Morber, at the old homestead, six miles south of Ava. Funeral and burial at 4:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 1918, at the family cemetery on the home place.

Mary Jane Parigeon was born January 24, 1844, near "Old Brownsville". She was married in the spring of 1859 to James Ward. To this union were born three children as follows; John T. Ward of Dexter, Mo., and Mrs. Wm. Sams of Ava, who are still living, and Sarah Ann Scott, who died in 1880. Her husband died in 1864.

In 1866 she was married to John R. Bagley, and to this union were born five children, three dying in infancy, and two are still living. They are; Wm. Bagley of East St. Louis and Mrs. J.T. Hayes of Ava. Death claimed this companion in 1873.

She then married Wm. Ledbetter in the year of 1875. To this union were born five children, two dying in infancy and one at the age of four years. Two are still living. They are C.A. Ledbetter and Mrs. John Morber, both of Ava.

She had 39 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She also raised nine stepchildren. Rufus and Cornelius Bagley, Jack and George Ledbetter, and Mrs. Sarah Kozlick are still living, four having proceeded her to the Great Beyond.

She has one living sister, Louisa Moore, of Indianapolis, Ind.

To know her was to love her. Her every act was one of piety, honesty and reverence to God and the right. She united with the Free Baptist church in the year 1866, to which faith she lived true until her death. She was a good neighbor, true wife and faithful mother. May her life be an example to the dear ones left behind.

Dear Mother, we have laid thee
In the silent grave's embrace,
And thy memory we shall cherish
"till we see thy heavenly face."
Heaven now retains our treasure;
Earth the lonely casket keeps;
And the sunbeams love to linger,
Where our darling mother sleeps.
