Alvin SAILER, 80, Bismarck, passed away on November 29, 2006, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with leukemia.

Services were held on Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck with Rev. Joel Winkler officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Alvin was born on June 5, 1926, at Hebron, ND, the son of Karl K. and Rosina (Flemmer) SAILER. He was raised and educated south of Zap, ND, in Mercer County. Alvin served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946.

In 1949, he married Bernice VOEGELE; they made their home in Bismarck where Al was employed with MDU for 29 years. Al was also a co-owner of the Superslide Amusement Park.

Bernice passed away in February of 1979, Al married Gertrude HETTICH on November 8, 1980, in Bismarck.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Elks, a charter member of Genie-Watt Credit Union, and active in The Germans from Russia Historical Society. Al was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice; his brother, Albert Sailer; and one infant brother.
