Davenport of Danville, Ind., entered the Marines after graduating from Bethesda High School in Brownsburg in 2005. He followed his father and older brother into military service. His dad served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and his brother is in the military police in the Army Reserve. As a youth, Davenport showed horses, but much preferred trail riding, his mother said. One of his favorite places to ride was at Versailles State Park in Ripley County. He has been posthumously honored with the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Funeral services for Davenport are being planned for next week in South Carolina. He was 20.
