Staff Sgt. Brock A. Beery, 30, of White House, was originally from Warsaw, Ind., and first served in the military through the National Guard in that state from 1993-97 before transferring to the Kentucky Guard. After a short break in service, he rejoined the Kentucky Guard in 2001 and had been a full-time Guard employee in Bowling Green. Brock was a loving husband, and a very devoted dad. He enjoyed his family, off road four wheeling adventures, collecting guns and hunting He was devoted in the business of taking care of his soldiers and meeting their needs. He was a father, husband, son, friend and a soldier. He was the type who would be first to volunteer for a mission. At the time he was killed, he was driving a fully-armored light medium tactical vehicle, the Army's updated version of the truck soldiers once called the "deuce-and-a-half," the 2.5-ton truck. His unit deployed to the Persian Gulf in July. Brock had previously served in Bosnia and in the Sinai region of Egypt during his service in the Indiana Guard. He was killed March 23 when an improvised explosive device went off near his armored vehicle near Al Habbaniyah, west of Fallujah at age 30.
