Lewis was born at Dallas, TX to William and Viola Stanford in 1957 and died at his home in Bellingham, WA on Friday May 27, 2011.

He graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs in 1975 and from the University of Montana in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Goure; daughters, Katie (Andrew) Hicks, Jennie Stanford and Kim (Rob) Barker; granddaughters, Lucy Stanford and Brielle Hicks; father, William Stanford; brother, Bill Stanford; and sisters, June McGrath and Peggy (John) Dyer.

His mother, Viola Stanford, preceded him in death.
