Mary Etter Gray was born to parents Allen Gray and Peletier (alternate spelling Peletiah) O'Neil. Like her mother, her name can found on numerous documents throughout history with a variety of spellings. Some of those variations include Mary Etta, Marietta, Maryetta, etc.
Mary Etter married first, Henry H. King on May 12, 1861. To this union we have found one child was born. James Henry King was born in 1862. Mr. Henry H. King died shortly after his son was born, leaving Mary Etter to raise him as a single mother.
Mary Etter would meet and then marry Henry Nelson Mackey, Sr. on September 30, 1869 in Butts Co., GA. They would immediately start a family together with the birth of their daughter Sallie G. Mackey born July 20, 1870. Later they would have a son, John Mackey.
Mary Etter would see her Father and Mother both died within just 2 days of each other, on Dec. 3 and Dec. 5, 1886. About three years later she would also see the death of her second husband Henry N. Mackey in 1889. According to census records of Butts Co., GA and stories past down to future generations, Mary Etter lived out her last years quietly with her daughter Sallie and her husband Augustus McGiboney. Mary Etter Gray King Mackey died November 6, 1915 in Butts County, GA.
