Flora "Rose" Shellenberger died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Holiday Resort Care Center. She was 98.
Mrs. Shellenberger was a homemaker.
The daughter of William Franklin and Margaret Jane Rader Leffler, she was born Nov. 27, 1910, at Council Grove, Kansas. She married Virgil R. Shellenberger on Feb. 24, 1931, in Allen, Kansas. He died Oct. 9, 1992.
Mrs. Shellenberger was a former member of the Bushong United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Agnes City and Springdale School Boards and the Willing Workers Quilting Club and did volunteer work at the Emporia Senior Center, which she also attended. She was a 4-H leader for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Virgil R. Shellenberger Jr. of Emporia, Kansas, and George W. Shellenberger of Bushong, Kansas; one daughter, Betty Rose Mason of Kingman, Kansas; three granddaughters, Amy Larson (Jeffry) and Denise Wyrick (John), both of Emporia, Kansas; and Susan Morris (Mark) of Yukon, Oklahoma; and grandchildren Joshua Morris, Zachary Morris, Brian Wyrick, Hilary Larson and Abby Larson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; an infant brother and two other brothers, Charles Leffler and Lewis "Jack" Leffler; an infant sister and six other sisters, Myrtle White, Lucy Kieffer, Florence Black, Lillie Leffler, Carrie Shirkey, and Fleta Hinkle; and one grandson, Jeffry Mason.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Jayne Duncan of the First United Methodist Church of Emporia will conduct the service. Burial will be in Agnes City Cemetery.

Mrs. Shellenber was an accomplished quilter. She pieced, assembled, and quilted many beautiful quilts. She also like to do most any kind of "fancy" work.
She raised great gardens and then canned or froze the produce. She was a wonderful bread an pie maker.
She and her husband loved to play cards, bingo, and loved to dance. She helped many young people learn to dance.
