Private Robert T. Coe, Company B of the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, died on duty, October 10, 1944 in Salerno, Italy. He is buried at the Milford Center Cemetery in Milford Center, Union county, Ohio.
Robert T. Coe was born February 12, 1922, in Union County, Ohio, and was adopted by Dr. George L. Coe, DDS, and Mary Maude Carpenter of Milford Center, Union County, Ohio. After 4 years of high school he attended Ohio State University. He enlisted in the Army on July 3, 1942 at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio, as a private. He was awarded a Purple Heart with two battle stars. He was killed in the Naples barracks when a German time bomb exploded inside the barracks.
