Nicholas Golovanoff, 85, of Greeley and formerly of Gunnison and Pitkin, Colorado, died March 12, 2010 at Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, Greeley. He was born March 31, 1924 in Fruita, Colorado to Ignati Gregori and Mary (Krupa) Golovanoff. He married Mary Alice Eichorn on March 5, 1948 in Denver. They recently observed their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Nicholas grew up in Denver and graduated from North Denver High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He was a survivor of a German P.O.W. camp in Czechoslovakia and was liberated by Russian troops. He was a member of the Miracle Lodge No. 182, AF & AM, Thornton. After his retirement, Nicholas and Mary Alice moved from Denver to Pitkin, Colorado. They loved living in the mountains. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Nicholas is survived by his wife Mary Alice of Greeley, daughters Sandra Selders and husband Tom of Greeley and Jeannette Golovanoff of Littleton; son Greg Golovanoff and wife Kathleen Tuttle of Boise, Idaho; 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Stoddard Funeral Home. A family interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
