Carl Austin Weiss
Birth: Dec. 18, 1905
Death: Sep. 8, 1935

Assassin. He shot and wounded Louisiana Governor Huey Pierce Long at the Louisiana State Capital Building in Baton Rouge. After shooting and wounding Long in the abdomen he was killed in a hail of bullets by Long's bodyguards. The Governor underwent an operation but died on September 10, 1935. In 1991 Weiss's body was exumed from its grave to search for evidence that Weiss had not fired the fatal shot that killed the Governor but was never returned to Roselawn Cemetery. The current whereabouts of his remains is unknown. (bio by: K)
