Services for D. L. "Jim" Murphy, 72, were held Monday, Sept. 14 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fielder Cemetery.

Mr. Murphy was born in Center on Jan. 29, 1920 and died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1992 in Lufkin.

Mr. Murphy had resided in Lufkin for most of his life and was retired from Harvey Williford Plumbing Co. as a plumber. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Herty Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughters, Margaret Price and Judy Murphy; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Murphy and Charles and Kennetha Murphy; sisters, Virdie Smith, Stella Ellis and Oleta Peavy; grandchildren, Mark, Jarod, Jamie, Jason, Justin and April.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Murphy.
