Death: 1887
Collin County

Born to Robert Davie Bumpass (Find-A-Grave #6729064) and Nancy Merritt Davey (Find-A-grave #6729065) in Person Co., NC. Died in Collin Co., TX. Buried in a family cemetery on the land of his brother, John Kendall Bumpass.
Came to Texas with one of his brothers after the Civil War.
Lived a quiet life, mostly with his sister, Nannie Bumpass Jones, near Copeville, Collin County, Texas.
Died in Collin County, Texas at the home of his sister, Margaret Smith.
Buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, a family cemetery of his brother, John K. Bumpass, about three miles south of Farmersville.
All other family remains with their markers were removed from Rose Hill Cemetery in about 1902 and are now located in the IOOF Cemetery, Farmersville, Collin Co., TX. His is the only marker remaining in the Rose Hill cemetery. It is unknown as to why his remains were not moved with the rest of the family - see below comments.

Rose Hill Cemetery sometimes called Bumpass Cemetery:

This site states in part:
"Cemeteries of Collin County, TX, by Joy Gough ---
The cemetery is about 100 yards west of the road. It is about 20-feet square surrounded by a 4-foot wrought-iron fence. Part of the fence has fallen down. There are small trees next to and inside the fence. Cows have used the pasture, but there is no evidence that the cows have been inside the fence. There does not appear to be any grass or weeds inside the cemetery. The cemetery is completely shaded by the intertwining and fallen branches of the trees. There are no stones in the cemetery except for a foot marker with the initials "W. A. B." When this cemetery was visited by the authors of COLLIN COUNTY CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS II, there was a headstone for W. A. Bumpass. This cemetery is totally neglected.
According to relatives, this was the Bumpass family farm named Rose Hill. When the Farmersville Cemetery opened, all of the family graves were moved there from here except William A. Bumpass. He was mentally deficient and his grave was left behind.
