Belt Brashear probably grew up in Urbana, Md. He was the son of Captain William Brashear (1734/35-1813);grandson of William Brashear (1709-?) and Prisilla Prather; Gr.grandson of Samuel Brashear (1673-1740) and Ann Jones; Gr. Gr. grandson of Robert Brashear (1646-112); and the Gr.Gr.Gr. grandson of Benjamin Brashear (Benois Brasseuir the Immigrant) (1620-1663).
Belt had a sister named Tabitha who married Alexander Pearre on Jan 4, 1791 in Frederick County. He had a brother named Ely Brashear (1774-1837) who married Julia Magruder, daughter of George Frazer Magruder and Eleanor Bowie. Ely and Julia lived in Frederick till their deaths.
Belt attended college and became a doctor. He lived at 14 West Main Street, New Market, Md., where he raised his family and had his medical office. His home stands today. Dr. Brashear was originally interred in the Woods-Hall Cemetery in New Market, Md., as was his wife Ann Cook Brashear. Years later his and his wife's remains were moved to Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Of Belt and Anne's 6 known children the whereabouts of only 2 of them are unknown. These two are: William Brashear (1797-1816) and Sarah Cook Bashear (1803-1839) w/o Richard W. Davis (1799-1843).
