James Youngblood, Sr, was the eldest son of Henry Youngblood and Sarah Miller Harvey. He was born 20 November 1817 in Marion County, Mississippi. His family later moved to Caddo Parish, Louisiana. About 1856 James married Margaret Jane Smith, daughter of Robert Smith and Mary Ann Johnson. Margaret was born 16 April 1839 and died 17 November 1877.
James served in the Mexican War and later in the Civil War. He served in W. C. Saxton's Company, Texas Infantry 1st. State Troops. James was also a Texas Ranger. He died 16 July 1909 in Sabine County, Texas. He is buried in Hemphill Cemetery in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas.
Children of James Youngblood and Margaret Jane Smith were: Mary Emma (Youngblood) Arthur, James S. Youngblood, Sarah "Sallie" (Youngblood) Gragston, Virginia (Youngblood) Roberts, and Margaret (Youngblood) Ragan.
