Jacob was the 5th of 7 children of Daniel Leiby and Susanna Lichty.
He served as a private in the 173rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company D (Civil War).
He appears in the 1860 census of West Penn Township, Schuykill County, Pennsylvania, living with his brother Daniel.
In 1870 (as Leibig) and 1880, same township, he appears with wife Matilda Gerber.
Jacob appears widowed in the 1900 and 1910 census of the same township.
Jacob was a farmer and shoemaker.
