Morris John "Dod" Dodrill, 81, of Grants Pass died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brett Strobel of Newman United Methodist Church officiating. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Dodrill was born July 31, 1920, in Hays, Kan. He graduated from Ottawa High School in Ottawa, Kan., and attended Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kan., UCLA, USC and Michigan State College. On April 5, 1942, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Vera L. Ward, who survives him. He worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation in Santa Monica from 1939 to 1947. From 1947 until his retirement in 1974, he worked for General Telephone Company in various locations in Southern California. At the time of his retirement, he was the eastern area engineering administrator for GTE. In June 1974 he moved to Grants Pass from Claremont, Calif.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a member of the Eagles and past president of the Kiwanis.
He enjoyed fishing and his vacation home on the Rogue River.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Steve J. Dodrill of Eugene; a brother, Richard W. Dodrill of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Carolyn Dodrill Williams of Long Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Larry L. and Garry L. Dodrill, died before him.
