|Birth: ||Feb. 14, 1913|
|Death: ||May 24, 2012|
Our greatly loved and amazing mother passed away May 24, 2012 at the age of 99.
She was born a Valentine baby on Feb. 14th, 1913 in Sugar City, Idaho. She was the 2nd of seven children born to Christian Schwendiman and Ada Shepherd. She was the "babysitter" of her younger siblings as she grew up and loved that.
After receiving her teaching degree from Ricks College and teaching four grades in a single room in Teton Valley, she met her precious companion. She married her sweetheart, Harold DeMont Johnson on August 4, 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. After the birth of three sons, (Kent, Rex, Bryan) they moved from Sugar City, Idaho to Boise, Idaho, where their fourth child (Vicki) was born.
Mother's love of family and children was paramount in her life. Together they had many, many friends and wonderful experiences as they raised their children.
She taught 2nd grade for 11 years in Boise and loved it, was a part of Study Group and DUP that met for over 50 years, and enjoyed other clubs and groups.
Kindness was a shining attribute of mother. She was a fabulous cook and hostess, assuring that any guest entering her home would leave having had a wonderful and memorable time. She never forgot a family birthday, and consistently took treats to friends and neighbors and those in need. She loved being with people, especially children.
She served faithfully in the LDS church over the years in Primary and Relief Society, doing German name extraction and served as a temple worker in the Boise, Idaho Temple. She was truly the person who linked all of us together.
Leah is survived by her four children, Kent Johnson (Julie), of Boise, ID; Rex Johnson (Dana), of Meridian, ID; Bryan Johnson (Sandy), of Boise, ID; and Vicki Fife (Rod) of Alpine, UT. She has 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. She is also survived by one sister, LaRue Swenson (Russell), of Ammon, ID and a loving daughter-in-law, Kay.
Leah was preceded in death by her dear husband, Harold, in 1982, her parents, a grandson and five of her siblings.
Our family would like to thank all who have been so important to mom over the years since dad passed and also in the last three months, the people in Meadow Lake Assisted Living and St. Luke's Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the Rose Hill Ward LDS Chapel, located at 3020 Cherry Lane in Boise. The family will greet friends on Saturday morning from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel.
