Zoe would like you to leave some flowers for her friend Muffin too.

Zoe Marie was born and died in the same small town in Eastern Washington. The day she was born her birth family phoned our family and had us come over and see the new puppies. We adopted her at 6 weeks old. She was so small and amazing. We loved her instantly.

She came to live with our family of seven people, one other dog Muffin, two cats and a barn full of bunnies.

Zoe was never your "typical" dachshund. She was never yappy, and NEVER would have thought of ever biting anyone. She loved strangers, which is very unlike her breed. She was a bit fearful in her younger years but as she aged she got less so. Even as a young pup before we got her she was much more timid than her siblings.

Zoe loved her children and had a special relationship with Sam and Zach.

Sam was the youngest child and when all the other children were off at school Zoe was Sam's special friend. When they were away Zoe and Sam spent hours playing the card game "war". Zoe being the special dog she was always let Sam win. (Either that or Sam was stacking the deck in his favor).

She loved Zach as he never ever did anything but love her. He never teased her and she would have spent all day licking him. None of the rest of the family could stand to be licked. But because he knew that she loved to do it he let her lick him. We used to say that Zach was a Zoesicle! After Zach moved away from home and came back for a visit she would cozy up to him for a good clean up.

When the children were young Zoe would play "musical beds" at night, going from one child to the other to sleep. She loved snuggling down below the covers and licking a few children toes if she could get away with it.

When my mother had a stroke in 2002 she came to live with our family. Zoe and mom developed a special relationship and Zoe stayed close to mom all day, either on her lap of next to her on the couch. Mom's stroke left her with Aphasia and she had trouble speaking and finding the correct words for things. Zoe was called kitty by mom. We had a lot of fun with that as Zoe hated cats and was afraid of them.

Zoe was a chow hound and would eat anything at anytime in any amount. We had to be very careful about her access to anything edible. One Christmas she got into and ate an entire large bag of holiday colored Hershey's Kisses. She then left very colorful gifts on the lawn for a few days. She loved her dinner and would let us know that it was almost time for dinner by making little sad doggie wining noises. It was like having a alarm clock set for doggie dinner time every night.

One of Zoe's most proud moments was when she just happened to be standing in the yard when a mole pushed up some dirt right next to her. She was quicker than the mole and was able to dig him out and kill him. She was so proud of herself as she absorbed all the praise. She considered herself a great hunter after that even though I don't think she ever caught anything else again.

You will be missed Zoe!
