George W. Coleman was the son of Edward Coleman & Mary Jane McWhite Of Marion County S.C.. G.W. Coleman was born and raised in old Marion County S.C.. Sometime between 1860 & 1872 he and his family moved to the McClellanville area of Charleston County, S.C.. In 1888,G.W. sold his land at Echaw Creek,S.C. and in October married his 2nd wife, M.A. Harrilson, in Arkansas.
Thanks to Elaine Mendosa for the photo of him and the following info:
"My Great-grandmother was the Daughter of George Washington Coleman. She was in fact his first born child. She shows up on the 1860 census as M E her name was Mary Elizabeth Coleman. She and George Payne Brandon had 2 children one died as an infant . The other was my Grandmother Francis Idell Brandon. They Called her Della. After the Death of Della's father Mary Elizabeth ( Coleman) Brandon married a man named John W Lyon ( Lyons) at the time my Grandmother was about 16y/o .
She did not have any children with Lyons." [It is most probable, (but not proven), that given Mary died between the 1900 census & 1906 ( when her second husband remarried) and at that time they were apparently in Atkins, Pope County, Arkansas, that she is most likely buried in this same cemetery as her father and brothers.]

His service record was:
Name: G. W. Coleman
Side: Confederate
Regiment State/Origin: South Carolina
Regiment: 10th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry
Company: F
Rank In: First Sergeant
Rank Out: Second Lieutenant
