Loren Barton, Oakwood road resident who suffered a paralytic stroke July 10, is very low. today. He has been gradually sinking since the last of the week when lie recognized his son, Leo Barton of Trenton, Mich., and a sister, Mrs. Becca Notter of San Francisco who arrived Saturday. Another sister, Mrs. Sallle Rhine of Detroit, Mich., and a brother, Lewis Barton of Eldorado, Ill., arrived last evening.

Loren H. Barton, retired Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. employe, died at 6:10 a. m. today at his home, Oakwood road, Route 1, at the age of 70.

He had been in ill health for two years, but his condition had not been serious until July 10 when he suffered a paralytic stroke. Two years ago he had suffered a light stroke, but had recovered from effects of that Illness sufficiently to be up and about.

His early life was spent in Eldorado where he moved as a child from Posey County, Ind,, his birthplace. He was born Oct. 27, 1877.

Barton came to Alton in 1902, moving here from Eldorado. He was married in 1903 to Miss Mae Maupin and all of their married life was spent in Alton, with exception of two years, during World War II when they went to Chula Vista, Calif., to be with a son, Kenneth, who was in the service there.

In 1942, Mr. Barton was retired by the Lubrite Division of Socony Vacuum Co., at East St.. Louis. Previous to going to work for the Socony Vacuum Co., he had been employed by White Star Refining Co., at Hartford.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mae Barton; a daughter, Mrs. Leslie Hale of Oakwood road; two sons, Kenneth, Alton, and Leo of Trenton, Mich., two sisters, Mrs. Becca Notter, Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Mrs. Sallie Rhine, Detroit, Mich., five brothers, Joseph, Emmanuel, John, Lewis and William, all of Eldorado; eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral rites will be conducted Friday at 2 p. m. at Gent funeral home.
