My Loving Godmother

Inspirational Teacher
Loving Grand Cousin to all our family's children
Cousin to our Grandfather, William P. Cole.
Full of life and always a joy to be with.

Susie spent her entire life living in her parent's Victorian home with chiming clocks and dark oak furniture. It was beautiful.

"Cousin Susie" was a woman ahead of her time. She was one of the first women of her era to travel from Connecticut to New Haven every day on the commuter train to study for her teaching degree. It was considered quite inappropriate for a young woman to take the train without a guardian in the early 1900's. She loved to tell how she wore her little poofed blouse and a big bow in her hair every day on the train.

Susie was very feminine and genteel. She was always dressed beautifully and modestly. There was an air of grace around her that often overshadowed her incredibly intellectual mind.

She became an inspirational teacher in Norwalk and scores of her students adored her. Students wrote to her and visited her home many years after their graduation.

Susie was the perfect example of "saving every penny". She used a teabag 3 times, she saved her pennies in a coffee can, and she carefully unwrapped every present she received so the paper could be used next time.

She was an attentive and amusing Godmother and loving senior cousin to her family's children. Always independent, she never married, she never had children, and she managed to grow old gracefully.

Susie was the cousin of our Grandfather, William Cole, and close friend to our Grandmother, Mary Anne Cole. Susie and Mary Anne found sisters in each other. They visted each other or spoke on the phone every day.

Their visits and calls were fun to observe since they both were filled with life. There was so much laughing that sometimes I thought they were the little girls - not me.

Tea Blessing:
God willing, may our tea
be steeped in serenity,
sweetened by sharing,
and surrounded by the
warmth of your love.
