Mable's father's parents were from New York, and her grandfather, Barnet Hummel, volunteered to serve the Union side in the Civil War, because he believed everyone should be free and treated well. Mable's mother's side, as far as I can tell, were nearly all from the South - a very unusual mix for those times.
Before marriage, Mable was a telephone operator and midwife.

Mable was a homemaker, midwife, an active member of the Christian church, and the Eastern Star. Mable was the first member of the Eastern Star in that branch.
Mable had three children: Frances Jennie Earls-Standerfer, Walter Hummel "Little Walter" Earls, and Bert Lewis Earls.
Mable had one sibling; Charles was her brother, and he passed away during infancy.

Mable suffered from a lot of loss. When her second child, Little Walter was 11-years-old, he developped a throat infection, that weakened his heart, and he passed away. Her son, Bert, said that she stayed by his bed day and night when he was sick.
Mable's son, Bert, went off to war at 18-years-old, and by mistake, a Missing In Action notice was sent to Mable and Walter; Mable was so upset and devastated, thinking another child had died, she had a Stroke. She was very ill for a few months, and passed away due to the damage done by the Stroke.
Everyone that knew Mable, said that she was a very nice person, and loving mother.
