Deceased Name: Betty Jean Bigbie
Betty Jean Bigbie, age 78, of Thousand Oaks, passed into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Aug. 14, 2008, with her husband of 54 years by her side.
Betty Jean or "B.J.," as she was known to her friends and family, was born in Butte, Mont., on Nov. 29, 1929. She and her husband, Dick, were married in Seattle, Wash., on Sept. 10, 1954, a true love story. In the 55 years they were together, their love and affection never faded. A union made in heaven, which will last for time and all eternity. B.J. moved to Ventura County with her husband in 1959. She enjoyed spending time working in her garden, and she was an excellent cook who loved to exchange recipes with her friends. B.J. was also a very talented artist; she painted with a passion, and her attention to detail was amazing. She had a heart of gold and enjoyed 22 years of service as a volunteer at Los Robles Hospital, where she met, and became friends with, some wonderful people. Betty Jean was especially proud of the fact that she was a Marine in the Women's Marine Corps Reserves.
B.J. is survived by her husband, Claude Richard "Dick" Bigbie, of Thousand Oaks; daughter, Nancy Long; granddaughter, Debra Jean (husband Norman) Sargent; grandson, J.J. Glattfelder; two great-grandchildren, Dreauna and Kyle Sargent, all of Briar, Washington.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Mikal Glattfelder, who passed away in 2007.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1600 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the Relief Society Room, and funeral service in the chapel at 11 a.m., followed by graveside service at Valley Oaks Cemetery at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.
In lieu of flowers, her husband, Dick, requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, California Central Coast Chapter, 1339 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, CA 93010;
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, 1075 E. Daily Drive, Camarillo;
