Spc. Zachary L. Shannon, 21, of Dunedin, Fla. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. He died March 11, in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Spc. Shannon, a Black Hawk crew chief, joined the Army in August 2010 and arrived at the unit in April 2012. This was his first deployment. He graduated from Dunedin High School in 2010 and was a member of the ROTC. "Zack died doing what he loved," said a neighbor. "From the time he was a kid, he would dress up in military for Halloween. Every single year he was something military. He would borrow his older brother's uniforms and that was his costume." Army Specialist Shannon is survived by his loving parents, Kim and "Chip" Allison; brothers, Joe Mirrione, Robert Mirrione and fiancée Jordan and Steven and Kristin Shanon; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Margaret Grubbs and several aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. Zack was a lifelong resident of Dunedin. A Celebration of Zack's Life will be held Sunday, March 24 at 12 noon at Dunedin VFW Post 2550. The family has requested a private burial ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dunedin High School ROTC program.
