US Marine LCpl William Alfred Battle, Vietnam Veteran and resident of Edgecombe County, NC

US Marine Lance Corporal William Alfred Battle was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Battle served our country until July 7th, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 25 years old and was married. It was reported that William died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. William was born on June 1st, 1943 in Nash County, NC. LCPL Battle is on panel 53W, line 032 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

He is the Husband of Mrs Mildred Battle, 1605 Chase St., Rocky Mount, NC; Son of the late William T Battle and Mrs Louise Battle of Rocky Mount, NC.

William Alfred Battle served as a Lance Corporal with Headquarters and Services Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, III MAF.

He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
