Clyde Bennett George, 81, of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Medical Care Center. He was the devoted husband of the late Martha Jean Barber George for fifty-seven years. Born April 7, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Dewey Ennis and Mazie Reynolds George and was also preceded in death by one son, Clyde Glen George, Sr.; one brother, Robert George and two sisters, Petus Lou George and Martha Ann Johnson. Mr. George was a retired Insurance Agent with American General Life & Accident Insurance Company and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Mr. George is survived by his daughter, Brenda G. Fittro and husband, David of Madison Heights; two brothers, Kenneth George and wife Wilma and Buddy George and wife Barbara, all of Danville; three grandchildren, Sarah Jean Fittro, Jonathan David Fittro, and Clyde Glen George, Jr. and a sister-in-law, Jewel Adkins of Blairs. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights with the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating The family will receive friends Monday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the home of her daughter, Brenda. Whitten Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel is serving the family.
