Cynthia "Cindy" Leigh Winston, age 54, died Tuesday February 28, 2012 in Roxboro, NC. She was the daughter of Alexander Gayle and Ann Morton Winston. She was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church, a graduate of J. F. Webb High School, attended Atlantic Christian College, where she was a member of the Homecoming Court and an A student.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday March 3, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Chapel by the Rev. Woodrow Freeze. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the memorial services on Saturday.
Surviving in addition to her parents are; two sisters, Gayle Winston Glass of Butner and Jeannette Winston Averett of Berea, NC; brother, Alexander Gayle Winston, Jr of Oxford. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Ruth Winston of Oxford and Royster and Alma Morton of South Boston, Va.
Flowers are accepted (potted plants or baskets) or to a charity of one's choice. The Winston family is under the care of Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.
Cindy suffered from Friedrich's Ataxia and the medical device known as the Cindy-Lift is named for her. Contrary to popular belief on the device's creation though, Cindy did not have Multiple Sclerosis nor did she live in a small trailer.

I have Frederick's Ataxia and have been in a wheelchair since I was 21. And although it is very hard for people to understand me, there is a very smart and funny person inside of here.
Cindy donated her body to Duke University to aid in research of Friedrich's Ataxia. On 18 April 2013, Cindy's ashes were returned to the family by the University for burial.
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
