Mrs. Alois Ruhland of Plain, the former Christina Schwartz, died Friday evening at the St. Mary's Ringling Hospital in Baraboo, after a long illness. She was 64.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain with the Rev. Archie Adams officiating. She was a life-long member of St. Luke's Congregation and its Christian Mother Society. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Edward of Baraboo and Louis of Longview, Wash.; five daughters, Mrs. Florence Hogan of Milwaukee, Mrs. Irma Haas of Spring Green, Mrs. Bernadine Volk of Plain, Mrs. Josephine Dyke of Madison, and Sr. Mary Michaeleen of St. Mary's Catholic School in Kenosha; a brother, Herbert Schwartz of Plain; twenty grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Two sons preceded her in death. They were Cpl. Charles Ruhland, who at the age of 23, was killed in action in July, 1944, during the invasion of Europe, and Daniel, who at the age of 31, lost his life in a traffic accident in July, 1956.
Mrs. Ruhland was the daughter of Michael Schwartz and Mary Hausladen Schwartz.
