Mass of Christian Burial for Hugh J. Hagemeyer, 83, of Longview will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Reverend Lucas Jay and Deacon Joseph Pipak officiating. A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM Monday at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will be in Rosewood Park.
He died Saturday evening, March 16, 2002 in Longview.
Mr. Hagemeyer was born August 4, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Hugh J. Hagemeyer, Sr. and Mary Haeger Hagemeyer.
He graduated from the University of Detroit High School in 1935, and from the University of Michigan in 1941, with honors in chemistry.
He worked at Kodak in Film Developing in Rochester, NY, in the summer of 1939 and 1940, and joined Tennessee Eastman in Kingsport in June of 1941 as a research associate. He was superintendent of Chemical Development from 1945 to 1950, and Director of the Research Laboratory from 1951 to 1953. In 1954, he transferred to Texas Eastman as Director of Development and from 1974 to 1982, he was the director of Research and Development. In 1982, he was appointed Scientific Counsel to the Eastman Chemical Division of the Eastman Kodak Co. He retired in 1983, after 43 years with Kodak and Eastman.
During his career, he received 250 patents in products and processes related to Eastman. He was co-author of several books and published over twenty scientific papers.
He was a past member of the Pinecrest Country Club, The Summit Club, the Cherokee Club, the Longview Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as chairman of the East Texas Heart Association and on the Budget Committee of the United Fund.
He is remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He cherished the many friendships he had developed over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Hagemeyer of Longview; his daughter, Kathy Waggoner of Longview; son Mike Hagemeyer of Longview; daughter, Betsy Simon and her husband Mike of Waco; his grandchildren, Alicia Whitehead and her husband Sonny, Jeff Waggoner, Michael, Ashley and Laura Simon; 2 nephews and 1 niece.
