She was born Feb. 28, 1941, at Cutler, Ohio, in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Robert E. Root and Opal Mae Springston Root.
She is survived by her husband, William R. Waterman Sr. and daughters, Brenda Sue Chapman (Bill) Jaynes of Findlay, Ohio, Linda Le Chapman (Hugh) Clinger of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, William R. (Deborah) Waterman Jr. of Waldo, Ohio; one stepson, Robert V. Waterman of Marietta; three brothers, Robert S. Root of Parkersburg, William E. (Jane) Root of Reedsville, Ohio, Richard L. (Judy) Root of Corryton, Tenn.; sister, Carol Mae (Ronald) Dennis of Marietta; and her spiritual sister, Debbe Wood of Anniston, Ala. She leaves behind eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, one stepson, Charles E. Waterman of Marietta, preceded her in death.
Patricia Sue graduated from Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg and continued her education in various fields during the following years. She was employed several years by the U.S. Government at the Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg before moving to Marion in 1973. In Marion, Sue was employed at the Marion County Board of Elections alternating between the positions of director and deputy director. Later she worked as a child support specialist for Marion County and retired from that position in 2003.
In addition to raising her family and working full time, Sue always found time to do other things. She has held the position of president of American Business Women's Association (ABWA) in Marion; one time president of the Marion County Democrat Club; Most Excellent Chief of Rebecca Lodge (Pythian Sisters), Caledonia, Ohio; and Worthy Matron of Vera Lodge 564 (Order of Eastern Star) in Caledonia.
As a member of Colonial Dames, 17th Century, Lady Grace Chetwood Chapter 30366 in Findlay, Sue developed a passion for genealogy. Her research took her and her husband, Bill, repeatedly into Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, and all parts of Ohio. After having trampled through countless cemeteries, church records, courthouses, and genealogy libraries, Sue then authored an 1,170 page hardbound book, "The Descendants of John Root 1607-1684." The book is now found in most Ohio genealogical libraries. Sue spent endless hours lending her expertise to others seeking to trace their roots.
Sue, a Baptist, is a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Marion, Ohio.
