WAPATO - Hattie Julia Clements Soverns, 98, of Wapato died early Wednesday, March 23, 1988 at Parkside Nursing Care Center in Union Gap.
Hattie was born September 25, 1889 in Hays, Kansas to Davis and Molly (Frazey) Burch. She was raised and educated in Hays and married W. Cloud Clements in Hays on October 19, 1905. The family lived in Kansas until coming to the Wapato area in May 1928. The family farmed and Mr. Clements worked for the United States Indian Irrigation Service. Mr. Clements died in 1962.
Hattie was a membe of the Baptist Church. On July 15, 1973 Hattie married Phillip Soverns and he died in 1979, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melva Davidson on September 11, 1985. Hattie's hobbies were embrooidering, quilting, crocheting, and working in her flower garden.
Mrs. Soverns survivers include three sons, Warren and Lloyd Clements both of Wapato, Lourn Clements of Toppenish; four daughters Bertha Nesmith of Wapato, Yvonne Lamb of White Swan, Edith Bailey of Harrah; a brother Ted Burch of Baldwin Park, California; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m. at Reservation Community Memorial Park west of Wapato. Family and friends wishing to attend the service, meet at Merritt Funeral Home Chapel in Wapato at 9:30 a.m. If desired memorials may be made to the donors favorite charity.
Hattie was loved by so many and is missed grately.
