John Anthony BOYKIN Sr., "Jack," was the second of the ten children of Tobias BOYKIN & Asenith T. HODGES, and the husband, first of Ruth WEBSTER of Chatham County, and then of Mary Jane ROBBINS, "Molly."

C.S.A. Service Record - Screven County, Georgia "Black Creek Volunteers," 1st Company B of the 25th Regiment of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry:
Jack enlisted as a private on the 10th of August, 1861, and was appointed 3rd Sergeant on the 5th of May, 1862. He was captured at Nashville, Tennessee, on the 16th of December, 1864. He was released at Camp Douglas, Illinois, on the 18th of June, 1865. [He served the Confederate cause with his elder brother, Paul Green BOYKIN, who was also captured at Nashville TN and released from Camp Douglas IL, all service dates being the same for both.]

Savannah Morning News, issue of the 21st of November, 1906 5:6 - OBITUARY. J. A. BOYKIN, Screven County, Sylvania, Ga. Nov. 20, - Mr. J. A. BOYKIN died at his home near Middle Ground in this county Sunday night, after an illness of some weeks with Bright's disease. He was the father of Judge H. A. BOYKIN of Sylvania, and was a highly respected citizen of the county.
