Sharon Lee (Liming) Hudson was born into a family with a lot of history in the Black Hills. Her great-great grandparents had come to the Hills in 1875 from Ohio and Wisconsin with the mining boom. On Monday December 24, 2012, Sharon Lee Hudson, age 74, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House.
Sharon Lee Hudson was born Sharon Lee Liming on November 16, 1938. She was born in Nisland, SD, to Louis "Ray" Liming and Helen (Dick) Anderson. She was the first child born, followed by her sister, Verna "Butch" Liming. Sharon grew up in Belle Fourche, SD, which is where she attended grade school thru high school.
Her mom had divorced and remarried Henry Anderson when she was a child, and Sharon was very fond of her stepfather and stepsister, Diane Anderson. Helen and Henry soon had another child, Dick Anderson. Her stepsister, Diane, passed away at the age of 15 in a car accident on the Arpan Road.
As a child she had mentioned she loved swimming in the Belle Fourche River with her sister, she loved being outdoors and being with her friends, and always had a great sense of humor. In high school, she was voted "Best Figure" something she bragged about every now and again.
She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1956; she was in the first graduating class from the new high school as it stands today. She married Burton Shear right out of high school. To that union, they had 3 children, Kim Shear, Scot Shear, and Jeff Shear. They raised their children in Belle Fourche and enjoyed camping, traveling, and spending time with family. They divorced in 1975.
After her divorce, Sharon worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Belle Fourche and enjoyed spending time with her children and having fun with her friends.
She had met Harold "Bud" Hudson on numerous occasions at the Country Club in Belle Fourche where he worked as a bartender. One night while out dancing in Belle Fourche, they danced, fell in love, and were married on June 29, 1979, in Cheyenne, WY, joining two families for over 30 years.
Sharon and Bud moved to Whitewood in the late seventies where Sharon started working for The Whitewood City Bar. She then leased the bar and eventually they purchased the bar from the City of Whitewood. They sold the bar in 2004 and retired, but you could still find her there just about every day until she fell ill. They eventually purchased some land off of Highway 34 in Whitewood where they lived for 25 years. They raised cows and horses and enjoyed gardening very much.
They always had big gardens and would can the vegetables and fruits they grew every year. Bud passed in 2009 and Sharon missed him very much; it was hard for her to adjust to life without him. But with the support of all of her friends and family, and of course "Duke" the dog, she had fun and adjusted to life in her final years without her husband.
Sharon was an avid reader; she always had her nose in a book. She loved watching old western TV shows and loved country music. She loved knitting and crocheting and always made blankets for all of her children and grandchildren. The last few years she started playing poker on Sunday nights; she had the best poker face of them all according to people she played with.
She was a mother to everyone she knew, she took care of us all, she had a great sense of humor and you could always count on a good joke from her. Right on up to her final days she never lost that sense of humor, joking with her nurses at the Hospice House in Rapid City.
And in the end, she had no regrets; she said she lived her life everyday exactly how she wanted to, she had a lot of fun, and she wouldn't have done anything different! She touched many lives and she will be dearly missed by all that knew her. We will hold her dear to our hearts forever.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Verna "Butch" (Liming) and Charon "Bud" Nelson of Lead, SD; her brother, Dick and Charlotte (Low) Anderson of Delta, CO; her children, Kim (Shear) and David Chancey of Santa Barbara, CA, Scot and Kathy (Abelin) Shear of Coventry, CT, and Jeff and Diane (Hix) Shear of Belle Fourche, SD; her stepchildren, Todd Hudson of Watertown, SD, Mary Jo (Hudson) and Kenny Felion of Fairmont, MN, and Teri (Hudson) and Chris Dirks of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren, Nicole (Robb) Shiffrar of Belle Fourche, SD, Keith Chancey of Santa Barbara, CA, Angie (Shear) and Todd Hix of Rapid City, SD, Julia (Shear) and Scott Solano of Greeley, CO, Lacey Kolody of Lead, SD, Kendra Shear of Brookings, SD, Jeannie and Scotty Shear of Coventry, CT, and Justin and Hunter Shear of Belle Fourche, SD; 10 great-grandchildren; and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well.
