Rev. Chuck Smith of Atlantic will officiate at funeral services for Roger G. Christensen, 70, lifelong Marne resident, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Roland Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Brighton Township Cemetery northeast of Marne, with military services at graveside by American Legion Post 422.
A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, visitation from 7-8 p.m.
Mr. Christensen, a cattle feeder and farmer, died Oct. 2 a the Torrance Medical Center in Torrance, Calif.
The son of George and Gladys Herbert Christensen, he was born March 5, 1920, three miles north of Marne on the family farm. He attended grade school in brighton No.2, high school in Marne and Atlantic, graduating from the Atlantic High School in 1937. He received a bacholar of science degree in animal husbandry in 1941 from Iowa State University.
During World War II, he was a second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force and was a navigatoron a B-17. He received the Purple Heart after being shot down and wounded during a bombing raid over Germany and was a prisoner of war for 18 months.
After military service, he was a G.I. instructor in Atlantic for several years.
His marriage to Megan Davies of London, England, took place Oct.10, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan.
He was a lifelong member of the Marne United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 422 in Walnut, Order of the Eastern Star 230 in Marne, Grove Lodge 492, AF & AM in Marne, Atlantic Chapter and Council 19 of RSSM and was a trustee of the Marne Masonic Temple Association.
He was also active in the Democratic Party in the county, served on the Cass County Zoning Commission, a Brighton Township trustee and a director of the Brighton Mortgage Company.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Susan K. Christensen of Hermosa Beach, Calif; and Terri Howard of Redland, Calif; and her husband,Chuck; a son, Robert D. Christensen of Sioux City and his wife Peggy; four grandchildren, Piper LaGrelius of Hermosa Beach; Konard, Sara, and Jennifer Christensen of Sioux City; a sister, Avis M. Holt of Moraga, Calif;, and her husband, Robert; a sister-in-law, Marian Treadwell of Middlesex, England; several nieces and nephews.
